Social Media Spending

I recently read an article the regarding the change in online marketing spending in 2010 thus far.  For many individuals and companies 2010 has been an interesting year. For many I believe it has been positive, customers are coming in the door, the phone is ringing and it seems as though people have some money to spend. I hope it continues.

According to the 2010 US B2B Marketers there has been a 71% increase in website sales, 68% increase in email marketing, 62% in search engine optimization and social media at an increase in 60%.

Google Goggles

Interesting news hit the web today as Google released “Google Goggles”, a brand-new addition to Google Labs. It is an experimental application for Android devices that supports visual search.

How does it work? Just open the application and snap a photo. Google (Google Wave) will process the image and return search results. The photo search functionality eliminates the need to type or say anything on your mobile device. It also adds context to your real-world surroundings.

While the technology is pretty amazing, they admit that it is still the beginning. Selected image searches work seamless. For example : photos of books, business cards, artwork, places, logos and landmarks. Image searches for food, animals, plants and cars are still in the works.

Watch the video below for a demonstration of Google Goggles.

5 Essential Steps for Improving SEO

Now more than ever, company marketers are challenged with improving performance with fewer resources and shifting marketing budgets from traditional to digital tactics like SEO and social media. There are significant benefits from combining search engine optimization and social media marketing tactics ranging from increased social network discovery via search to the ability to attract links for improved SEO.

Implementing a social media marketing program without optimizing content is leaving money on the table. Useful social content (blog, video, images, audio) that cannot be discovered via search is a lost opportunity to reach an audience that is looking.

1. Find the Audience:
Understand their behaviors, preferences, methods of publishing, and sharing.
Most companies that are involved with the social web in the channels where their customers spend time have a good sense of where to start. Get involved.
2. Define your objectives:
Objectives are often driven by marketing or sales, and SEO has long been directly accountable to substantial improvements in web sales. Social media is not direct marketing. The role of SEO in a social media effort is to directly influence discovery of social communities or content via search.
3. Establish a game plan:
The game plan for reaching objectives in a combined SEO and social media effort will often focus on content and interaction, since it is content that people discover and share. Whether a keyword-focused strategy for reaching goals means publishing new content or creating an opportunity for consumer-generated content, it must involve proactive promotion and easy sharing ability.
4. Creating a strategic mix:
The strategic mix for a social media marketing effort is based on doing the homework of finding where the desired audience spends its time interacting with and sharing content. Much of the content creation and promotion for a social media marketing effort happens within the strategic mix and optimizing content for keywords.
5. Measure your goals:
Leveraging both social media monitoring services as well as web analytics can provide marketers with the insight to improve results. Marketers can use specific measurement tools to monitor the effect of their social web participation as well as the search engine performance of SEO efforts.

Extend the value of your investment. By involving SEO insight in a social media marketing effort and vice versa, marketers, public relations and advertisers can extend the value of their investment. Well optimized social media content marketing efforts can attract new network participants via search and help increase sales.Advertisers and companies that fund social media campaigns can continue to realize the traffic benefit from optimized interactive content long after the campaign has ended.

The power of email marketing to your current customers

For most of our clients we handle their email marketing. While each customer has a different approach it seems offering your customer a baseline of information about what you do is more valuable than trying to sell your services.

Screen shot 2009-09-30 at 9.45.56 PMFor example one of our customers is Tingley Electric Services. Vinny Tingley is a local electrician who provides tips to his customers on a monthly basis. Last month he offered a link to a rebate from Energy Star on changing the electric thermostats. He has had tremendous results. I encourage you to visit his site and see what Tingley’s Tips has to offer.

The purpose of Blogging to Drive Sales

Blogging has become an extremely popular trend for both the personal and business community, many still don’t realize the importance of having a company blog. Company blogs can attract thousands of viewers through search engines, social networking and social media websites and lead them back to your main company website. Blogs are also a great way to build the brand of your organization !

One of the most beneficial reasons for starting a company blog is that it can alert potential clients of new products or ideas that you may be offering, and, can be an extremely useful tool in generating leads for your organization. It can also be used for obtaining product feedback. Doing this however, is easier said than done, so here a few tips on how to use your company blog to effectively generate leads.

1.Quality: While it seems to make sense that the more content you publish on your blog will generate more leads, the opposite seems to be true. Too much content will overwhelm your viewers, and will end up deterring them from following through. The most important thing about a blog is to generate readers, so focus on well-written, interesting posts that keep the reader in mind. More readers mean more potential leads, so focus on quality, rather than quantity.

2. Engage your reader: Once you have created a following of readers, it is useful to use offers to entice people with something in exchange for their contact information. This is so that viewers can get to know your organization better, and in time, become a potential lead.

3. Develop an offering: After you’ve come up with a smart idea for an offer, the final process is to inform the viewers about the offer through a Call to Action. This is what the reader will physically click on to receive the offer, and acts as a substitute sales pitch. It’s extremely important that this link is able to grab viewer’s attentions.
